Did you know that unless you’ve transferred responsibility, in writing, to a management company, tenant, or third party that, you, the owner are responsible for ensuring that your kitchen hood exhaust is cleaned to code?
Here’s how NFPA ’96, Section 4.5 explains it…. The responsibility for inspection, testing, maintenance and cleanliness of the ventilation control and fire protection of the commercial cooking operations shall ultimately be that of the owner of the system, provided that this responsibility has not been transferred in written form to a management company, tenant, or other third party.
It’s clear from this that, in most circumstances, the buck stops with the facility owner. Making sure your kitchen is being cleaned to code should be one of your highest priorities.
One of the best ways to do so is to partner with a respected provider to ensure that you’re being serviced at appropriate intervals and that the work is being performed to proper standards. As you read above, this expectation is directly stated in NFPA 96, Section 4.1.5.
